چکیده

This work considers locally decodable codes in the computationally bounded channel model. The computationally bounded channel model, introduced by Lipton in 1994, views the channel as an adversary which is restricted to polynomial-time computation. Assuming the existence of IND-CPA secure public-key encryption, we present a construction of public-key locally decodable codes, with constant codeword expansion, tolerating constant error rate, with locality O(λ), and negligible probability of decoding failure, for security parameter λ. Hemenway and Ostrovsky gave a construction of locally decodable codes in the public-key model with constant codeword expansion and locality O(λ), but their construction had two major drawbacks. The keys in their scheme were proportional to n, the length of the message, and their schemes were based on the Φ-hiding assumption. Our keys are of length proportional to the security parameter instead of the message, and our construction relies only on the existence of IND-CPA secure encryption rather than on specific number-theoretic assumptions. Our scheme also decreases the locality from O(λ) to O(λ). Our construction can be modified to give a generic transformation of any private-key locally decodable code to a public-key locally decodable code based only on the existence of an IND-CPA secure public-key encryption scheme.

Relaxed Locally Correctable Codes in Computationally Bounded Channels

Error-correcting codes that admit local decoding and correcting algorithms have been the focus of much recent research due to their numerous theoretical and practical applications. The goal is to obtain the best possible tradeoffs between the number of queries the algorithm makes to its oracle (the locality of the task), and the amount of redundancy in the encoding (the information rate). In Ha...

Public-Key Locally-Decodable Codes

In this paper we introduce the notion of a Public-Key Encryption Scheme that is also a Locally-Decodable Error-Correcting Code (PKLDC). In particular, we allow any polynomialtime adversary to read the entire ciphertext, and corrupt a constant fraction of the bits of the entire ciphertext. Nevertheless, the decoding algorithm can recover any bit of the plaintext with all but negligible probabili...

Locally Decodable and Updatable Non-Malleable Codes in the Bounded Retrieval Model

In a recent result, Dachman-Soled et al. (TCC ’15) proposed a new notion called locally decodable and updatable non-malleable codes, which informally, provides the security guarantees of a non-malleable code while also allowing for efficient random access. They also considered locally decodable and updatable non-malleable codes that are leakage-resilient, allowing for adversaries who continuall...

A Note on Amplifying the Error-Tolerance of Locally Decodable Codes

We show a generic, simple way to amplify the error-tolerance of locally decodable codes. Specifically, we show how to transform a locally decodable code that can tolerate a constant fraction of errors to a locally decodable code that can recover from a much higher error-rate. We also show how to transform such locally decodable codes to locally list-decodable codes. The transformation involves ...

Exponential Lower Bound for 2-Query Locally Decodable Codes

We prove exponential lower bounds on the length of 2-query locally decodable codes. Goldreich et al. recently proved such bounds for the special case of linear locally decodable codes. Our proof shows that a 2-query locally decodable code can be decoded with only 1 quantum query, and then proves an exponential lower bound for such 1-query locally quantum-decodable codes. We also exhibit q-query...
